Chalky’s Bite scoops Men’s Health Beer of the Year

Chalky's BiteChalky's Bite, has beaten 15 of the healthiest brews on the international market to be crowned Men's Health Beer of the Year 2009.

Britain's best performing men's lifestyle title scoured the country in search of the finest dark beers, India pale ales, lagers, herb beers and non-alcoholic beers to name a few. Each brew was judged on number of calories, taste and nutritional qualities.

Men's Health awarded Chalky's Bite, top of the hops, highlighting the fact that the fennel in the beer fortifies the liver. At 33kcal, Chalky's Bite has 20% fewer calories and half the carbs of the runner up - Belgian beer, Daas Organic Witte.

Chalky's received top marks from Men's Health in the taste test and was singled out by David Long of the British Beer & Pub Association. Chalky's Bite ages in the bottle which means "more yeast and more flavour," says Long.

Men's Health Editor Morgan Rees says, "Congratulations to Rick Stein and to his beloved Chalky's Bite. It's great that a homegrown brew beat international competition to be crowned Men's Health Beer of the Year 2009. We're proud to offer our readers a definitive guide to beers, ales and lagers which are nutritionally beneficial, taste great and help you cool off this summer."

Chalky's Bite is available to purchase at selected Waitrose and Sainsbury's stores and in Stein's Deli & Patisserie or via our online shop.
