There’s something special about autumn in Padstow. The summer buzz fades, the streets calm down and suddenly there’s space to breathe. The days often stay mild and bright, sometimes even warm enough for an Indian summer, without that overbearing heat. Just soft sunshine on the harbour and a fresh breeze rolling in off the water.

Mornings start with a good breakfast to set you up for the day. Maybe you’ll head out along the coast path under crisp blue skies, find your own little patch of beach or just sit on a bench and watch the tide drift in and out.

When it’s time to eat, there’s the four course Taste of 50 Years menu at The Seafood Restaurant, a bit of a love letter to the dishes that have stood the test of time. Or, if you’re in the mood to pick and choose, you can upgrade to the à la carte and dive into some classics and seasonal specials, depending on what’s landed fresh that day.

And of course, it wouldn’t be right to leave Padstow without fish and chips at Stein’s Fish & Chips. Crisp batter, flaky Cornish fish, proper chips. Simple pleasures, done properly.

Autumn here is slower, more peaceful, a rather good time for good food, sea air and a bit of Cornish magic.

The Seafood Restaurant

Our flagship restaurant in Padstow was opened by Rick Stein and Jill Stein in 1975. Nearly 50 years on, the menu at The Seafood Restaurant still reflects everything that Rick set out to achieve – great quality fish and shellfish, simply cooked.
