A celebration of the sea
Our flagship restaurant in Padstow was opened by Rick Stein and Jill Stein in 1975. Nearly 50 years on, the menu at The Seafood Restaurant still reflects everything that Rick set out to achieve – a celebration of great quality fish and shellfish, simply cooked. Head Chef Pete Murt leads the way now, with his team perfectly recreating Rick’s recipes time and time again for guests to experience – including lobster thermidor, turbot hollandaise and Indonesian seafood curry.
The seafood bar at the heart of the restaurant is where you’ll find people watchers and real food enthusiasts who want to find out more about everything from our team behind the bar as they shuck oysters and pour drinks. Like a relaxed chef’s table experience where you can choose the menu.
FOOD STORIES SPECIAL
Rick’s latest series that takes you on a culinary adventure across Great Britain. From Cumbria to Bristol and Suffolk to Belfast, he explores the diverse food and drink that people love today. The series showcases 30 dishes, two of which you’ll find on our menu…
Crumpet with Potted Shrimp and Poached Egg
This recipe comes straight from Morecambe on the Lancashire coast where Rick first fell in love with potted shrimp. This experience inspired him to write a new recipe that makes the perfect starter that gives layers of richness. Homemade crumpet topped with a good spoonful of shrimps and a poached egg, that once cut open creates a very lovely sauce with the spiced butter that coats the shrimp. Supply of shrimp, due to the low levels of catch, can be patchy so this is a dish to order when you spot it on the menu.
Salt Cod Fish Cakes
The delightful combination of salt cod fish cakes and a good spoonful of aioli might transport you to the Spanish coast somewhere. But no, the recipe for this fab dish was discovered near Bristol at a café called Houria during his Food Stories travels. We rather like a plate or two to share for the table as an appetiser.
