Three Star Sustainability Champion Status received by the Sustainable Restaurant Association
22.03.2016
We are thrilled to let you know that we have been awarded Three Star Sustainability Champion Status by the Sustainable Restaurant Association for the second year running after being awarded an exceptional rating for sourcing, society and environment. Our grade this year takes into account all of our restaurants including those in Fistral, Winchester and Sandbanks.
There are three main categories that are judged for the award: sourcing, society and environment covering a range of criteria such as local and seasonal food, sustainable fish, community engagement and energy saving.
We were delighted to achieve 100% for treating people fairly in recognition of our employee training scheme, staff benefits and The Rick Stein Academy. We also increased our environment rating by 12% compared to last year and received a special commendation for purchasing our fish and seafood from British waters, landed in British ports.
Our two highest areas in the sourcing category were in local and seasonal produce for our seasonal menu changes and fair trade in our support of local suppliers such as Matthew Stevens Fish and Warrens Butchers.
The report ends: “The SRA commends Seafood Trading on its sustainability initiatives and commitment to ethical best practices. The areas in which Seafood Trading performed well in, in the SRA Sustainability Rating should inspire other UK restaurants”
