BATTLE OF THE APPRENTICES AT RICK STEIN’S COOKERY SCHOOL
17.11.2016
With the famous Padstow Christmas Festival just a few weeks away, we needed to decide which dish to serve on our food stand in the market. And what better way to do this than invite our level 3 chef apprentices to compete in a cook off at our cookery school! They were tasked with creating one of Rick’s dishes that they felt would work as ‘street food’ at the festival.
The standard of cooking was high and our four judges, including Luke Taylor our group chef and Nick Evans, head chef lecturer at Rick Stein’s Cookery School were faced with a tough decision to choose a winner.
Manuel from Sandbanks was first up with a great Spanish twist on mussels. Aarran from the cookery school presented a delicious deep fried Monkfish dish from Rick’s new book, Long Weekends. Emma from Fistral cooked up a great vegetable curry and Laurrissa from the Cornish Arms created a Christmas burger with brie and cranberry. See photos of them all below.
In the end, it was Olivia from Rick Stein’s Café who came up with the winning dish, a Vietnamese turkey salad.
Congratulations to Olivia, and if you’re coming along to the Christmas Festival (1st-4th December), make sure you pop along to our food stand to try out her dish.
