Meet our final 3 Stein’s Values Champions of 2024
Meet Values Champion, Katie
Katie, Supervisor at Stein’s Deli recently became a Values Champion – someone who lives and breathes our company values. She says “it’s a surprise and an honour to be one of our Values Champions”. The value that Katie relates to most is Bringing out the best in each other as before working here, she worked in the NHS helping students to progress and develop in their careers.
Growing up across the border in Devon, Katie went to the University of Surrey to train to become a midwife. She then moved back home to the south west in 2021 and became a part of the Penrice home birth team.
After the Covid 19 Pandemic, Katie wanted a change of pace and joined our team in the summer of 2022 as a Retail Assistant at the deli. She has been promoted since then to a supervisor with the help of her colleagues Abbey, Amy and her manager, Felicity. This year, Katie spent the summer working in our fishmongers and seafood bar as well as in the deli, gaining valuable experience across sites. Working here has given Katie an opportunity to find a new passion, seeing how our local products can make someone’s holiday that little bit more special. Seeing returning customers and what the company means to them makes her feel proud to be a part of that.
When dining in our restaurants, Katie’s favourite dish is the classic Indonesian seafood curry. Outside of work, Katie loves to walk her dog, Oakley as well as surf, especially on her favourite beaches, Constantine and her local, Polzeath.
Meet Values Champion, Dave
Content and Communications Manager, Dave, is one of our latest Values Champions – someone who lives and breathes our company values. Dave says “It’s very humbling to be recognised as one of our nine Values Champions. I love being a part of a business that’s purpose is to make people happy”. Dave feels that he can best relate to our value ‘Show great team spirit’ as ‘I’m very lucky to work across all sites, spending time with lots of colleagues to create content for our marketing channels”.
Born and raised near Brighton in Sussex, Dave moved to Bournemouth to study Leisure Marketing at Bournemouth University as he’s always had an interest in business and passion for sport, so it felt like the perfect course for him. Since graduating, Dave has developed his career in marketing, gaining valuable experience along the way, especially in social media, working for Cotswold Outdoor and The National Trust.
In 2016, Dave moved to Cornwall to join our team as the Marketing Executive before taking on more responsibility as the Content and Communications Manager in 2022. This is Dave’s first hospitality role in his career, but now he can’t imagine himself working in another industry, “It’s all about the people, building relationships with our guests, colleagues and suppliers”. When dining at our restaurants, Dave’s favourite dish and wine pairing is lobster thermidor and chips with a cold glass of White Burgundy. However, you’re much more likely to find him with a pint of hazy IPA in his hand rather than a glass of wine.
Outside of work, Dave loves to spend time with his wife and 2 young daughters, spending their weekends at the beach in Newquay with their working cocker spaniel and discovering the best breakfast spots in Cornwall.
