If you’ve read Raynor Winn’s bestselling memoir The Salt Path, you’ll know it’s a moving story of resilience, love and the healing power of nature. Now adapted into a new film starring Gillian Anderson and Jason Isaacs, The Salt Path is bringing Raynor and Moth’s journey to life on the big screen, and we couldn’t be prouder to see Padstow playing a starring role.

Padstow on the Big Screen

As part of their 630-mile journey along the South West Coast Path, Raynor and Moth pass through Padstow, a memorable pause in both the book and the film. In the book, they arrive via the ferry from Rock, take in the harbour and stop for a portion of fish and chips from our Fish & Chips on the Quay. After weeks of walking and wild camping, it’s a brief moment of rest and something warm to eat before they continue on. The film captures glimpses of Ruby’s Bar and familiar views of the town, it’s a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment, but for us, it’s special to see Ruby’s on screen. We’re proud that our little spot in Padstow became a small but meaningful part of their journey.

From here, the path heads west along the coastline past Stepper Point and Hawker’s Cove.

A Coastal Story for Us All

Whether you’ve walked the South West Coast Path or just read about it, The Salt Path captures the beauty of Britain’s coastline and the quiet resilience found along the way. From the cliffs of North Cornwall to a pause in Padstow, it’s a story that sticks with you.

If you’re catching the film, keep an eye out for Ruby’s Bar and some familiar Padstow scenes. And if you’re planning a visit, why not follow a few of Raynor and Moth’s footsteps – grab some fish and chips on the quay, stop in at Ruby’s and take in the view they once passed through.
